[Apologies for writing in English] Collusion rings in Computer Science – a new and sophisticated way of cheating at the highest level. Attached below is a warning letter from Michael Littman, a top scientist in AI and machine learning, published very recently at CACM, the top scientific magazine in Computer Science:

It describes a quite sophisticated way of collective cheating that is happening more and more frequently at top tier CS conferences. Note that this hasn’t been like this until 4-5 years ago (at least not at the top). But due to the huge amount of interest in AI/ML (and CS in general) in the last few years, the number of people who consider publishing at these venues as just a mere way to gain fame/fortune is increasing. Hence the increase in the number of cheating.
As the senior programme committee member/area chair of some of these conferences, I have also seen some signs of cheating in the past. But they were less organised or easier to spot. I’m quite surprised as well that even threatening is now part of this cheating process…
